Highlands Christian School
Highlands Christian School is a new school planning to open in January 2027 in Armidale, NSW. It is an initiative of a group of Christian parents who desire an affordable Christian education for their children. The Melos Group (www.melos.education) was approached to help start the school and have begun working on getting it open by January 2027.
Melos Education Ltd is a not-for-profit charitable company which operates several other Christian schools across NSW and has a vision to help parents establish a Christian school where there is no current access to one.
Our schools are all grounded in a philosophy of education that sees the Christian faith informing the perspectives presented in education.
(a) The Christian world and life view serves as the foundation for each school's mission, directing its approach to learning and teaching and to the development of Godly character in students.
(b) The Christian world and life view also serves as a goal for the learning of students such that they are encouraged to develop this worldview through their learning.
(c) Wisdom is a key outcome of Highland’s pedagogy equipping students to apply their knowledge and understanding in the pursuit of truth, beauty and goodness.
The school will be open to people of all faiths if they accept that Highlands will present the evangelical Christian faith to all students and ground all its work on the basis of Biblical teaching and beliefs. Students will all learn about the Christian faith while not being required to embrace it personally.
An application for registration and accreditation with the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) will be submitted by March 2026 with a view to gaining permission to commence operations in January 2027.
Board Structure and Governance
The school will operate as a member of the Melos Group (Melos Education Ltd – www.melos.education) and will be a member of Christian Schools Australia (CSA), an association serving the Christian movement nationally. The school will also be a member of the Association of Independent Schools of NSW (AIS).
Highlands will be governed by the Board of Melos Education Ltd. The Executive Principal of Melos Education leads the team of School Principals in the Group and is accountable to the Board for the appointment and support of the principal of each school. The Principal of Highlands Christian School will be responsible for leadership and management of the school and its operations.
The Board focuses its agenda on matters of company policy, risk and sound financial oversight. The Executive Principal provides guidance to the principal about the future direction of the school ensuring plans towards achieving the Core Purpose are in place whilst maintaining the school’s Christian distinctiveness.
Board members bring varying gifts and talents to their role, seeking specific expertise and support when required. Melos Education Ltd is a not-for-profit public company limited by guarantee with a Board of Directors elected by company members.
